What do you think of my essay about Gandhi?

plz comment.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was a major political and spiritual leader of India and the Indian independence movement. Through his movement he used civil disobedience as his sword for the fight for independence and peace. He was a very simple man with his dhoti and shawl, but had many powerful views. Gandhi was molded into the man he was when he was alive by the great influences around him. Throughout his life, Gandhi’s character was shaped by three very important interactions he experienced; with his wife, mother, and England.
In May of 1883, 13-year old Gandhi was married to 14-year old Kasturbai Makhanji. Even though Gandhi and his wife didn’t have a very normal relationship, due to the fact that Gandhi spent most of his time in jail, speaking in front of crowds, and also considering the fact that they were forced to find love in each other, since their marriage was arranged, they still had a strong relationship. For instance, when Gandhi was fighting for independence, Makhanji would be right by his side or praying for his safety while she waited for his return. Gandhi got his patience out of this relationship due to the fact that they were together for so long. His patience was used when waiting for the British to leave in peace from India, not in pieces or when spending days at a time in prison. Their prolific relationship was, in no doubt, cohesive.
What truly started this idea of civil disobedience was Gandhi’s mother. This interaction, between mother and son, was a strong bond that eventually grew in all of his followers’ relationship with the man himself. Putlibai, Gandhi’s mother, was a devoted Sikh and taught Gandhi to harm no one for any reason. Gandhi lived by the advice his mother gave him and used it as his weapon of choice in his war. This taught Gandhi to act gracious, to be reverent and to be sympathetic with others. Without these characteristics his mother molded into Gandhi, he would probably have been like one of the Indian civilians that had a sword in one hand, the head of an Englishman in the other, and a face stained with tears. This was the exact type of person Gandhi felt was not the right person to cross swords in his battle for freedom and serenity.
Early in Gandhi’s life, he accepted an offer from an Indian businessman named Dada Abdullah in South Africa to join him as a legal adviser. In South Africa, Gandhi faced discrimination directed at Indians. This interaction was bitter-sweet due to the fact that South Africa’s people exhibited hatred towards Gandhi, but also strengthened his character by building mental calluses. His fortitude was enhanced, giving Gandhi an edge in mentally handling his times in jail or being strong when not receiving what he wanted when marching for Indian rights. These mental calluses made Gandhi braver in the face of physical and mental dangers. Neither friend nor foe, South Africa detailed intricate grooves in the fine sculpture that represented Gandhi’s character.
Gandhi had impacted everyone around him, but especially himself. He inspired people such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela by giving them and others the idea of civil disobedience. Also, to use that idea to get what they want instead of using violence. This Idea was wired into the brains of the people of Gandhi’s time, but in a long term impact it is still being learned by present’s people. Gandhi impacted himself by learning how to become humble. This was important because it would have looked like he was just helping India to benefit himself if he was arrogant and egocentric. As Gandhi was molded by the influences around him, he is one of the hands forming the heart of today’s society.

What am I supposed to do now?

Need to make this short. A year, two months ago, I got into a relationship with this girl. She’s damaged, badly. She liked to put safety pins in her arms, cut words in to her leg and had very poor self-esteem. She was beautiful and sad and very loving. But also terribly manipulative and controlling. The worst thing, though, was that she wanted to kill herself when she was 18. She told me this a few months in to our relationship, and explained that I was the only one she ever trusted enough to tell. Initially, I felt honored, because she was a foreigner (Swedish) and had few friends here. Long story short, we fell deeply in love with each other (she wrote me in a note in her own goddamn blood), and made plans for a future and everything. And then, I made a terrible mistake and we weren’t allowed to see each other for two months. After that, our relationship fell apart. All the love, the hardship, the promises, for nothing. She’s with someone new, now, and I desperately wanted to make sure that this new person would take care of my ex. I asked my ex if her new girlfriend knew about her suicide thing. And she said, “No, don’t you dare tell her, either.” So I can’t help but wonder if it was just a lie. It was a pretty big focal point of our relationship, and I just realized that it could’ve been her way of compensating for her low self-esteem. She was often times emotionally manipulative, but genuinely seemed to care about me and love me. After our break-up, she called fifteen times from 12-1 in the morning to check that I hadn’t killed myself. I don’t want to believe that she’s manipulative, or lying to me, but a lot of things seem to point at this. We broke up four months ago, but I’m still hopelessly in love with her. Even though she doesn’t seem to care, or even to talk to me. I’m pretty sure she hates me, to be honest. I’ve tried moving on, looking for other people, but I can’t. I even go to a damn psychologist. I love her so much. What the hell do I do with myself?

Should I jerk off or not? I choose not…?

Hey I haven’t jerk off since a week before lent and I think it’s really getting a toll on me. I’ve been noticing I’ve been up stress but most days I do feel about not jerking off for as long as possible. I go to a community college, doing sports, no GF (Working on it), no job (looking for one) and the thing is I’ve been finding myself being more up tight and being more stress. I have a lady friend but then I feel I don’t know I’ll be cheating on her if I do jerk off. We are not really friends but we do hang out with each other in our days at school and I’m working on becoming on a closer relationship with her. All i do is think about her and her safety. Anyways, is this what keeps me getting stress out? If so how can I release this stress in my life without jerking off?
I’m still not doing it! :P

My mom wants my daughter for a visit…..?

My mom wants to have my daughter over for a visit for 3 days, she lives 1 ½ hours away from where me and my husband lives. Normally I wouldn’t mind, but I fear my mothers recklessness. I love my mom to death, don’t get me wrong, we have a great relationship, but she is reckless and I’m worried. For example: She drives way way over the speed limit all the time. One time when she was watching my daughter and didn’t have a car seat ( 3 years old) she took her in the car anyway without the seat to get cigarettes. She pulled her arm out of socket before, she let her eat dangerous pills when she wasn’t paying attention. I’m just so worried about my childs safety but I don’t wanna hurt my mom. I love her very much, her safety standards just aren’t the same as mine. She is so very sensitive though that this will crush her if I say no she can’t go. She’ll be devastated and it might hurt the relationship we have, which is normally good. I don’t’ know what to do, any advice???
So far I am truly appreciative of everyones advice however I can’t take any time off work for the days she wants her. Its next mon-tues-wed and thats the plan because she is coming into the city (where we live) those days for certain errands. My daugher is 5 years old now. Thanks again!!
Thanks again for all the answers, these are all very good suggestions however my mom won’t come stay at my house because she wants to be at her own home, not sure her reasons but I’ve already suggested it, and I can’t go there even if I could get the time off work because she has specifically said she wants some “alone” time with her. I think I’m gonna have to hurt her feelings or lie and tell her she can’t go becuase of missing daycare.
Hey thanks again everyone, even more great advice, I truly appreciate it. The only problem is tonight she is staying overnight at her other grandmothers house, my husbands mother, who is very safety orientated and who I know I’ve left in her care and she takes the upmost precautions with everything and does anything I ask of her. She goes so far as to ask me how I want her hair, or what I want my daughter to wear that day. She is a very considerate and safe grandmother. My mom has always disliked the other grandmother, felt in compitition with her I guess so I really can’t use the excuse that she isn’t allowed to sleep over when I’m letting her sleep over there. I feel so bad for my mom, but my daughter’s safety has to come first!!

Any one who’se had a one night stand….?

Do you regret / glad you did it as experience? Would you do it again?

Me and my boyfriend have agreed to be free to date others until we can be together again (in a year) if we still want to. Anyway he’s just left the continent and want to be prepared if the situation arises. I’m 19 and he’s the only person i’ve ever been with and debating whether i want to or not if i meet a really hot guy and don’t want a serious relationship etc. Yea so any has anyone regretted it? And i know safety first.. trust me i’m really conscious and aware of this so no worrying there!
Hey people don’t get the wrong idea about me.. we said were hoping to get married when we both return (8000 miles apart and realistically long-distance don’t work). I might not even meet anyone. Just wanna be prepared and think…. man i wish i experienced more guys before settling down… Why i’m asking if you regretted it or anything.

What can I do to protect my parents from my abusive brother?

He is 39 years old and lives in the basement of my parents’ house. I stopped over to their house and could hear him yelling at them from outside the closed door. When I stepped into the house, I witnessed him screaming at them and he had them cowering. They pay all of his bills and he has no job. They provide him a car, a cell phone, cigarettes, insurance, food, drugs, and anything else he cons them into giving him. When they don’t react the way he wants, he is very, very verbal about it.
I tried to talk to them about it, but my mother is very protective of him. Her main response for his behavior was that I ‘didn’t know him like they do’. She now is telling my siblings that I lied about what I saw and that ‘he would have never done anything like that’.
I have decided to physically bow-out, knowing that this may have destroyed any relationship we have ever had, but I still want to assure their safety. What can I do???
Btw- I am the oldest child and he is the youngest.

Could Xena and Gabrielle From Xena Warrior Princess be based on these character from Mythology?

“Do you Agree that Xena could be based on these characters from Greek mythology:
> Bellona – roman goddess of war,
> Atalanta – huntress and athlete,
> Diana – goddess of the moon and a huntress,
> Artemis – the virgin huntress – but only the huntress part applies to
> Xena.
> Themis – goddess of law and justice.
> Nemesis – goddess of retribution.
> Nike (Victoria) – goddess of victory.
> Penthesilea – Queen of the Amazons.
> There was a Goddess called Polyxena – she was put to death by Achilles
> ghost.

Could she also be based on this charater:
Ixion is a fundamental character in Greek mythology. The most complete account of Ixion’s tale comes from Pindar in his Pythian Odes. Ixion was the son the Phlegyas, descendent of Ares, and king of the Lapiths in Thessaly. He is significant in many respects, but is chiefly known as the first human to shed kindred blood. This occurred when Ixion invited his father-in-law, Deioneus, to come and collect the price that Ixion owed him for his bride. Upon his arrival, Deioneus fell into a pit filled with burning coals Ixion had camouflaged.

Because this was a crime new to the human race, nobody could purify Ixion and he wandered an exile. Zeus took pity on him and decided not only to purify Ixion, but to invite him to Olympus as a guest. Once in Olympus though, Ixion became so enamored of Hera, and he desired to sleep with her. Zeus did not believe that Ixion would be so disrespectful as to have designs upon the wife of his host. To see if the rumors were true, Zeus made an image of Hera out of a cloud, and impregnated it. The cloud bore Ixion the monster Centaurus, who was unloved by the Graces and had no honor among men or the gods. Centaurus then mated with the mares of Mt. Pelion in Magnesia, and so from Ixion the race of centaurs was born.

To punish him, Zeus bound Ixion to a winged (sometimes flaming) wheel, which revolved in the air in all directions. Also, by order of the gods, Ixion was forced to call out continuously call out: “You should show gratitude to your benefactor.” Ixion became one of the more famous sinners on display on Tartarus, and most writers mention him when describing the place. For example, Ovid wrote of him, and Vergil, with his moralistic interpretation of how sin should be punished, awards Ixion a special mention in the Aenead.

The focus of Ixion’s mythology on the guest/host relationship shows the venerable age of Ixion’s story. Of all the attributes Zeus became associated with, he was originally particularly worried that the custom of Xenia, the formal institution of friendship that ensured traveling archaic Greeks could count on each other for safety in antiquity, be enforced (for more on this in all the Greek world see Powell 150; the importance of the guest/host relationship is fundamental to all world mythology, take the Biblical story of Sodom and Gommorah, for example).

Aeschylus remembered Ixion’s role as the purified progenitor of blood guilt in the Euminides. Athena, before she will hear Orestes’ case refers to him as Ixion, an allusion Orestes balks at and tries to convince her is false (Euminides. 450-455).

Pirithous, king of the Lapiths, good friend of Theseus, and important in later myth, is considered to be one of Ixion’s children. There is another claimant to Pirithous’ paternity though. Zeus, in the Iliad 14. 317-318, claims to have seduced Dia, Ixion’s wife, and fathered Pirithous.

Xena could be based on that character because the name sounds simalar.

Could Gabrielle be based on this character:
There is only one character from myth, fable, or history that relates to Gabrielle, Xena’s faithful sidekick. The name Gabrielle is the female version of the name Gabriel, which literally means man of Godâ in Hebrew. Gabriel is an archangel used in several different religious stories. Here is a brief synopsis of those involving Gabriel:

In the Old Testament Gabriel explained visions to Daniel, announced to Zacharias the future birth of John the Baptist, and appeared to Mary, the mother of Jesus. Gabriel was also commonly known as the angel of death, prince of fire and thunder, and most frequently God’s messenger. In the New Testament Gabriel is one of 3 angels associated with the term ‘Flaming Angel.’ In Revelation, the last chapter professing the end of the world, this is the angel which had power over fire. In Islam Gabriel is often identified with the angle Ruh meaning breath, one of three angels sent to gather seven handfuls of dirt used to create Adam. These angles were unsuccessful in their mission because the earth foresaw human rebellion against Allah. He was also sent by Allah to kill the serpent Sakatimuna which he successfully cut in two. This tale is usually associated with an eclipse. In the Talmud Gabriel destroyed hosts of Sennacherib, showed Joseph the way, and was one of the angels who buried Moses. In the Koran Gabriel took Mohammed to heaven to reveal ‘prophetic love’. Known as Jibril, He is credited with dictating the perfect copy in heaven to the earthly copy of the Koran.

According to the sources listed below, Gabriel has a horse named Haizum and the archangel is sometimes associated with a trumpet and good news. Now what this has to do with the character Gabrielle? Who knows, but it is interesting.
